The Federal R&E Tax Credit Has Expired

The federal R&E tax credit has now expired.  The federal R&E income tax credit is one of many tax attributes that have not been made a permanent feature of our tax code.  Congress has allowed the federal R&E income tax credit to expire in the past, only to re-enact the federal R&E income tax credit retroactively.  The federal R&E income tax credit has been extended many times since it was enacted in 1981.
